President’s Final Message
By Dave Mueller

Well, the groundwork has been laid, and now it’s time to keep the momentum going strong for 2006 and beyond. I see 2005 as having been a breakthrough year for WHPRMS regarding recognition of the value that we as public relations and marketing folks offer to our own hospitals and the Wisconsin Hospital Association.

First, it was important to have a seat at the table at a meeting of the WHA Public Policy Council, and I hope my successors are able to grow this opportunity and become a vibrant voice for PR and marketing in this forum. Second, it was gratifying to be part of the formation of the WHPRMS Council on Medical Malpractice and to witness WHPRMS taking a lead role in creating tools to address one of the most significant issues in many years for the future of health care in our state. Through the success of these opportunities, we’re opening the door for WHPRMS collectively and each of us individually to be valued as stronger partners with WHA and our own hospitals.

For 2006, if you know our president, Kris Baird, and president-elect, Tam Powell, then you know two of the most dynamic health care PR and marketing people in our state and anywhere in the country! With Kris, Tam and an excellent board of directors, WHPRMS is in great hands. I look forward to attending an excellent Professional Development Day in Madison this spring and another outstanding Annual Conference in Green Lake in October.

My parting words as president: The board tries to lead but can’t do everything on its own. I encourage you to attend WHPRMS educational events, participate in WHPRMS webinars, and offer your input to the e-mailed questions of your peers. Make it your priority to get involved in your profession!
