“… there appear to be two modes
of thinking, verbal and nonverbal,
represented rather separately
in left and right hemispheres
[of the brain] respectively.”

— Roger Sperry, Nobel Prize winning
brain researcher (1973)

The Free-Spirited Right Brain

It is the artistic component.

It is the inventor, our child.
It thinks in patterns and shading.

Here are several exercises to help you tap into your right brain:

Rent a Foreign Film

Notice what the film does differently in terms of pacing, visual appearance, ratio of dialogue to action, etc. Make note of what impact different approaches have on you.

Crazy Cartoons
Get up early on Saturday morning and watch a children’s cartoon on television. What does the animation and visual style remind you of? How does the look and feel of the cartoon reflect the story? How are colors and shapes used to evoke certain emotions among viewers.

Just Do It

Visit a museum or park that you’ve never been to.

Drive a different route to work.
Take a long hot shower or bath.
Get up from your desk and take a five minute walk.
